Bryant / Abigail Fannon - Residence

Postby suneson » Mon Nov 10, 2008 8:50 am

Bryant and Abigail were married in Giles County Va in 1812. I have a document that indicates they lived in Giles, Wythe and Bland counties until about 1849 when they moved to Lee county. Can anyone give me more specific information. Thanks

The only evidence that I have of Giles county is their marraige in 1812.
Otherwise, up until 1849, Bryant appears to be linked to Wythe Co. and land along Walkers Creek.
He is granted some in 1834 which also coincides with the death of his father Achilles (1760-1834) in Wythe. This Achilles is married to Agnes "Alice" Muncey.
Achilles (1760-1834) held a large amount of land along the middle and south branches of Walkers Creek, much of it claimed by either him or his father Achilles (1735+/- - 1812).
The census shows Bryant living in Wythe 1820-1840 and then Lee in 1850. I need to look for some traces in Bland and Giles.
Do any of you still live in SW Virginia ? I have just visited there a few years back. It would help to have someone to go check the court and land records in Lee, Scott, Giles, Bland.

I checked back in my records and most of the land held by Bryant and his father Achilles is said to have been along Walker's Creek or some of it's tributaries. Walker's Creek runs from around Pearisburg to west of Wytheville with it's headwaters almost touching the Holston (which flows west !) . This was all once part of Montgomery Co. Wythe Giles and Tazewell Co. were made out of Montgomery and Bland made from parts of Wythe, Tazewell and Giles in 1861. Bland got the part north and west of Walkers Mountain. Bryant's property could be the same with it starting in Montgomery, then Wythe, then Bland. It looks like the Muncys were from the Giles co. area, thereby the marraige record. Giles sits north of Bland.

My grandparents were Wirt and Pearlie Fannon, decendants of Abigail and Bryant. I live in Scott County, Va...6 minutes from Stickleyville (Lee County). If you could tell me what to look for, I would be happy to check county records in Lee and Scott counties.

I don't have any information about Bryant or Abigail. But I can give info about Wirt and Pearlie's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
